Feather & Noise recently escaped to Gemma Peanut’s colourful Airbnb, Yo Caba Caba, voted Australia’s best family-friendly stay! We were lucky enough to experience it for ourselves, and can confirm it’s just as dreamy in real life. Did we mention that it made the perfect backdrop for our Black Friday campaign, 'Caba Bound'!

We caught up with Gemma to uncover the story behind her vibrant, beachside escape, and here’s how the conversation unfolded!

 

I’d love to hear more about the inspiration behind the house’s colourful, Palm Springs-style design, can you share a bit about that?

I’ve always been drawn to colour - bold, unapologetic, joy-filled colour. When it came to designing Yo Caba Caba, I knew I wanted it to stand out from the sea of coastal white homes with safe timber accents. Having lived in the U.S. for two years, I visited Palm Springs often and fell head over heels for its architecture and fearless use of colour. That spirit became my muse. My mission for this house was simple - to make it unexpected. This meant off-trend colours, pattern-clashing, bold wallpaper and an unapologetic sense of JOY.

 

 

Do you have any local hidden gems, must-visit spots, or personal favourite places in Bogangar and Cabarita Beach that you’d recommend?

Highly recommend picking up takeaway pizzas from The Burrow, heading to Norries Headland, sitting in the grassy hill and watching the sunset. Bliss!

 

Which spot in the house is your personal favourite?

Sitting on one of the swivel armchairs in the living room and feeling the soft rug under my feet with a matcha in hand. I'm a sensory creature, so the combination of all of these things soothes my soul. 

 

Do you have any tips or ideas for recreating the same colourful, vibrant Yo Caba Caba vibe at home?

Give yourself permission to be brave with your soft furnishings! Cushions or throws and artwork is here you can inject colour without the fear of committing to something as permanent as say, bathroom tiles.

 

What does a perfect weekend at Yo Caba Caba look like for you?

Quality time is my top tier love language. So a perfect weekend to me looks like unscheduled days hanging with family & friends around the pool, while sucking back zooper doopers in the hot, hot sun.
